So I was checking out the photo section.  Saw someone using a MES 40 with external thermometers running "through" the door opening.  Wouldn't that damage the seal?  I run mine through the vent openings on top of the unit.  Just curious on everyones thought.

The vast majority of external/remote thermometer probes have cables pretty much like the cables on the built-in probes.  That is...they're not round, but rather 'flat' in shape.

As long as you do not twist the cables and take the time to make sure they are laying flat against the lip of the smoker when the door is closed on them, then the seal will suffer little if any wear at all (now if your seal is old and has become brittle, then all bets are off).

Just don't go pulling the cable back and forth while the door seal is closed on it. If you need to adjust, open the door and make your adjustment.

And here I thought it was through the uppet vent like what I do. LOL
