Safeway just sucked!!!

I shop at Smiths/Krogers and hunt the bargin bin almost every day. I get enough bargains to toss in the freezer to keep me supplied on a rotating basis. I just got 13 chubs of sausage last week for .99 ea. Great for sketty sauce and/or a fattie.

Hey Meateater, I do the same thing. I can usually run into Albertson, since it is the closest and find Chicken usually min 40% off in the bargain bin and I have started buying steaks only from the old bargain bin myself.

David, I usually wait till items comes on sale, then buy and freeze. I know that it might take away from the quality of the meat a little but I have never noticed it enough to stop. Plus trying to buy a turkey other than around Thanksgiving you really pay.....

Your prices are fairly comparable to my area. What's really different is something you don't mention: Vehicle Fuel costs. My two adult children live in the Denver/Parker area and they're always bragging about how much cheaper your fuel is in comparison to mine. My daily driver is a Diesel truck. Today I paid 3.49/gallon. Don't even ask our Canadian Cousins how much they pay for fuel. It's truly outrageous because of the heavy taxation. Sunday drives in the country are a thing of the past. Sorry for the slight hijack, but just putting things into perspective. Wait for the sales, then stock up.
