I'm not sure, but lately it seems like there's a larger influx of negativity floating around here then usual. Remember we are all here for the same reason, to learn how to smoke food or to improve our smoking methods. I'm sure it's a real turn-off for a newbie to read some of things posted lately, and it probably makes them a little hesitant to post questions(one of the purposes of the forum), or participate in discussions. Like I said it may just be me reading more into something then I should.

Chris,

I must agree. . . . . I thought it was just me as well. I have noticed that in general, many Forums on the Internet demonstrate a lot of negativity from their members. Almost as though it's a contest as to who is smarter than the next guy. In this day and age of instant gratification many people have become impatient. Instead of learning from experience or searching posts from more experienced members, some people choose to confront or challenge others.

Chill out folks. . . . . You can learn a great deal here from a lot of great people!

It's not just you.My career dictates that I know metallurgy very well. The other day I posted what amounts to a food safety issue. It was handled very poorly by the OP to say the least. The odd thing is that only a few people spoke publicly (posted on the thread) but I got PM's that made the person out for the stooge they are.I agree with your newbie comment and this being a place for knowledge, not negativity. If this negative, arrogant behavior is called out by members instead of watched it will cease. My 13 year old son (Black belt in MMA) proved this to his middle school bully with his classmates cheering him on and with no repercussions from his school or is Dojo. His Dojo requires that his school is notified he is a martial artist and that the school reports any relevant altercations to them.

This seems to be a common theme in most forums these days. I haven’t seen it happening much here, but haven’t read every thread and/or response.

I’m a mod on another forum. I see new people/members joining to ask questions that have been answered numerous times already. This tends to cause some members to over react, negatively, and jump down their throats. This hurts participation and possible attraction to new members as you mentioned. What I recommend to those members that over react is to remember everyone is New at some point, and is there for a reason. They need help. Instead of being negative, point them to the search function, link them a few threads pertaining to their question, or simply answer their question. No need to be negative and bash people for asking questions.

The sad reality is that many people have the courage to post online comments that they would never say face to face to an individual. I recently read where people are afraid to honk their horns for fear of being rude. In contrast, I have no problem honking my horn when I see some fool holding traffic at a green light because they are busy texting.

My online motto is that I will not post something that I will not say to someone face to face.

Could you add some links to threads where you feel this occurred, Chris?

I was actually was using the search function, and reading a thread I felt pertinent to my interest, and viewed where one poster with a different view seemed to be getting slapped about for his view.
In fact, I think I will add my thoughts to the thread. Probably time I pissed somebody off....

And no, I'm not afraid to point it out. I was rather appalled.
How about you?
