I was going to get a Maverick - wasn't decided between old or new model.
However threads with malfunctioning Mavericks are popping up almost daily. When it works seems to be a good thermo. But shouldn't quality be significantly better and consistent for that kind of $. Water getting into the probes is an old issue...they still haven't addressed it, have they? My local dealer even has "tips" posted on its website on how to deal with malfunctioning (wet) probes.
I have a $15-$20 digital therm (wired). I am washing the probe under running water. Dropped the unit a few times, scratches on it but still working well with no hiccups. LCD still visible at -20C (not leaving it outside at that temp).
I have hard time understanding Maverick's popularity.
Other good reliable brands out there?
