Thanks in advance. I am still pretty new and have a question about checking my new Maverick 733. Is it safe to put the probe directly into boiling water or should I have it in the water as it comes to a boil.

Just/Only the tip do you want to put in a rolling boil... Without touching the pan (sides/bottom) ... Hold there until temp stops climbing ... compare to temp of boiling water for your elevation ... (if profile was filled out we would know your elevation without having to ask) ... you'll love the new therms ... Thumbs Up

I hold my probes part way up the cord with tongs and keep the probes in the water but not touching metal once the water has come to a boil.  I don't believe in the ice water test that people use.  I don't want/need the therm to be accurate anywhere near 32°.

Unless you want to check your fridge or your a/c (air temp in your ducts.)

Thanks everybody. Good info. I'll have to fill out my profile but for now I'm in Southern California the land of no rain. Have a great day.
