Ordered wrong one needed pit temp probe got meat probe. They should work for either shouldn't they.
 
yes....meat probe is longer & pointed for piercing. Pit probe is the stubby one.....however, stick that one through a potato or onion and place on grate.....wa la!!.....Willie
 
Put it in stock holder works fine. Old temp probe going crazy because I use water pans every cook guess steam get in probe and screws it up

Use some hi-temp silicone on the end of the probe where the cable goes in.  That should help seal it a bit.

I haven't done that on my Maverick, but I had to do it (at the manufacturers suggestion) for some custom probes I had made for a steam application where I work.  The red hi-temp stuff is fine and you'll be ok with it in the pit as long as you aren't running crazy high temperatures.
