Ya know, maybe there's a need for a running thread titled " what are you watching ? " . Other forums I visit do that.

And variations of that theme, such as " what are you reading " and " what are you listening to " .

Mrs Okie is worried bout Buck. Last episode, they left us with only knowing he got shot down. She's very concerned.

I know what happened with him, but I'm not telling her.

How many episodes are out now? I watched the first three the night I signed up... finished at midnight lol. I looked when more were gonna be released but don't remember.

If I had to summate Episode 4, its about the crews facing the reality that they probably won't survive 25 missions. Reality is beginning to set in.

They're in the 8th AF's worst period of the war.

I have been obsessed with For All Mankind on Apple+ the last week or so. Alt history series around the space race between the US and USSR. Its phenomenal. I also enjoyed the series season 1 Monarch Legacy of Monsters. That's scifi Godzilla type fair. Outside my typical watch list but was binge able. Looking forward to a season 2.

Currently watching Masters of the Air. Great series. Just finished For All Mankind season 4. Another great series. Finished the first season of SILO. Gotta love Rebecca Furguson!! Loved her in the M.I. movies. Watched Greyhound a few weeks ago. Another great war movie. Enjoying the APPLE TV + material. Tried the series FOUNDATION. Just a bit too futuristic for me. I couldn't get into the show at all. Think I might try Monarch Legacy of Monsters next. Enjoy!

I started y'all a thread " What are you watching ? " . Which is a thread that probably should've been started long ago.

Although the series is nearing the end, the title of this thread is " Masters of the Air " .

I'm getting very concerned that the series is in Episode 6 and we're only into October 1943. There's still 18 months of the war left. And if they're telling the story of the 8th AF in WW II, well, they're gonna be skimming over a lot of important stuff.

Not that I don't like what I've seen, its been good, but they need to do a season 2, which won't ever happen because of the cost of producing this series. That's why it took 10 years to get this one made.

The scene last night of the German civilians beating and killing US airmen was close to what my Dad experienced. When he bailed, he landed on the " main street " of a small German town, Wettringen . And he was immediately surrounded by soldiers and civilians who had been waiting for him so they could give a gala reception.

The civilians wanted to kill him but the German soldiers had more gumption than those in the series last night and held off the civilians. Dad and another member of his crew were paraded down the street so the civilians could let them know how happy they were they'd dropped in to see them.

And the interrogator scene was very real. After being captured, all AAF airmen were transported to Frankfurt, to a temporary prison called Dulag Luft. That's where they were interrogated. Every personal account I've read, this stood out to them.

The interrogators name was Hanns Scharff and after the war, there was a book written about him. He had such an impact on Dad, that Dad bought the book. They knew minute details about every captured airman before the interrogation even started. This book is interesting.

The little cell they had Egan in this episode, is just how I had envisioned it from descriptions in personal accounts and what Dad spoke of. They kept them in the cell for three days before interrogating, just to break them down.

Mrs Okie had a fist pump moment at the end of Episode 6. It was worth keeping her in the dark .

I can't wait for Episode 7 .

As I said earlier, we've only get three episodes left and we're in October 43. We've still got the transition to Doolittle, Big Week in Feb 44, daylight bombing of Berlin every day in the first week of March 44, and then the huge subject of D-Day. Then the transition of targeting from defeating the Luftwaffe to oil/fuel facilities and transportation like marshalling yards, and the 1,000 + bomber streams almost every other day. There's also controversial areas like Dresden.

But I gotta hunch this week they're going spend a lot of time on the Red Tails, the Tuskegee Airmen. They were in 9th AF operating out Italy and the 9th did some escort duty for the 8th, but they were a very very small part of the 8th AF story.

I suspect we will get an outsized view of the Red Tails. They've had an entire movie made about them. They get featured constantly. I wonder how many people know who the " Blue Nosed Bastards " were ? Or who is Hub Zemke ? How about Gabby Gabreski ? I think us older folks probably know Chuck Yeager, but his story needs to be told . There's just not enough time left.

Yes, the military was wrongly segregated. Yes, our entire society and our govt was wrongly segregated. But during the war was not a time to tackle a social issue like integration. It was hard enough ordering men to their deaths and they did not need the extra dynamic. Truman took on the issue in 1948 when he ordered the military integrated.

There's just so much more of the air war over Europe in WW II that could be told.

Hope I'm wrong, the series has been good so far.
