I bought a used Masterbuilt 30" off of a local seller on Facebook Marketplace. He plugged it in and said 'see, it gets hot'. It was $50 and I don't think he was intentionally deceiving me.

When I plug it in at home it gets to roughly 139 degrees. I've kept it on for over an hour and it doesn't get any hotter.

Electrically, I'm an idiot, so there isn't a voltmeter to be found at my house.

Is there anything I should look at or do, or do I just take it to the curb? I don't think installing an Auber pid would change anything since I don't have a fluctuation problem - I have a heat problem.

Thanks for your thoughts.

While your waiting for replys use the search function... There's thread after thread for this exact same problem... I don't have one so I'm no help...

Unfortunately, yes the seller was intentionally deceiving you and they knew it was defective.
I don't know anything about FB Marketplace, but be sure to give a bad review if possible.
$50 was a decent price. Fortunately it is an easy fix to replace the high temperature limit switch or the attached wiring.

Mine did that. I figured it was either the controller or the element. Luckily, Amazon had a kit where you get both. I swapped it out and all was good.

BE CAREFUL. Make sure your model number is correct for the element listed. Look at the element, make sure it looks like the one in the picture.

Also, this part is so cheap that I just ordered an extra for when (not if) this one breaks. Imagine it happening during the middle of an important smoke? Now, tell me which smoke is NOT important.
