Yeah those top openers never last long. I also got the side cut now but it is a bit harder to turn
I dunno. I am using an Oxo 'side cut' one now - just looked at my history on Amazon and it is going on 5y old. I think it gets a lot of use.

I guess maybe some don't last - I was shocked to find I'd ordered 5 can openers on Amazon - 2014, 2015, two at the same time in Dec 2016 - then this one in April 2020 and it is still going strong - the others all apparently died.

Of course - I've now jinxed myself and I have little doubt this Oxo is going to actually explode next time I open a can of dog food and I'll probably lose a couple of fingers and maybe an eye with it, in the bargain. :emoji_anguished:

OXO normal cut, everything OXO has worked very well so far, they use to put 1 large P38 per case back in the 70's-80's, it was the lucky guy that got 1, I had 1 on my dog tags for a long time, not sure who took t off but suspect mamaw did so grand kids could play with it.

Don't know if true or not but they say the side cut ( would prefer ) are harder on the cutting blades because of the thickness of the cans compared to top ???

Sounds like you were having about the same luck I was having with openers.

Yeah, this is the opener we have, but ours is right-handed. 😋 We have had it a long time and it still turns easy. So easy in fact that you have to pay attention or you will do a lap and a half around the can. I'm pretty sure it is going to out last Pam and I.

I got to thinking about the one I have . It has to be 25 to 30 years old . Still works fine .

Could be true, but we have had our side cut for about 3 years and zero negative issues. Although a lot of cans now have the pop top that are smaller. Not sure if you are opening large cans.?

I have had OXO normal cut for many years. A year or so ago it broke and I ordered another on Amazon. It's a piece of junk, loses grip on cans often. The older ones I loved because of the exact opposite. Mayce I just got a defective one but I now hate it.

Oh boy, that would be my luck to get another clunker 🙄
Oh well, didn't have to sell the ranch.
