Unfortunately swing-a-way went out of business years ago and the name was purchased by some random company. These are now cheap openers made in China with a familiar name stamped on them.

EZ-DUZ-IT from what I understand purchased their tooling and makes them in the USA. I have one and it's identical to my childhood friend.

I have a report.
I'm at the ol lady's house and just picked up the can opener I got her and it is rock solid and has some heft to it. It feels good being all steel. I didn't open any cans with it but I handled it and told her that if we have any cans to open I'd like to do it so I could give a full report on it's function here hahahahah.

I had to go look at what we or I use...

No wonder I like it after what's been said here. But no more comments so I don't jinx myself.

I used the Le Creuset manual to open up three cans earlier and I have to say it's the easiest manual can opener I have ever used. Then I looked up the price before posting this. She bought it at their outlet store and I hope she didn't pay anywhere near retail for it. :emoji_astonished:

EDIT: My wife came home and said it was only $20 from the outlet store. I saw them for $45 on ebay. Whew! :emoji_sweat_smile:

Just ordered one of the EZ from Amazon to check it out. Can always return if it's not what I'm looking for

Out of curiosity how long ago did you get your OXO? Like I said I've always loved them but my last one is junk.
probably a couple months ago. I bought this one. I had one from "made in the USA can opener" company for along time. It was good for a while then crapped out completely

I've found with a manual can opener, the longer and more heavy duty the handles the easier it seems to crack into a can and such. Also a big turn lever helps along with the whole thing being some real metal.

A lot of this is pretty much just following well known rules of physics I guess. Like the bigger the levers the easier it is to do things with it hahahaha.

We are going to the store later so chances are I buy a can of something to open just for a test so I know how good the one I got her is.

The one I use at home is no longer made but it also feels heavy, has big longer handlers and a long sturdy twist lever. The cutting mechanism and gears are not little flimsy things either so I see a trend for good ones :D

Ok final report.

Opened some green beans with the Kebley heavy duty all stainless steel can opener and it worked like a charm. Was easy to use, felt good in hand, and felt sturdy. If my one at home dies I will be getting one of these since it has been in use by my girlfriend and now has been tested by me.

We are having some company over her place and I'm going to make some cured jowl and bacon wrapped meatloaves in the oven. Going to make 4 individual loaves. 1 for each person to have their own on the plate. Should be good! Green beans with cured pork jowel will be one of the sides.

Just looked and the can opener is still sub $7 so that is my report since this thread is all about finding good can openers in a world of duds lol :D

My Daughter bought me a pair of Le Creuset tongs . I'm telling you there is a quality to that stuff .
Both material and operation .
I have a ceramic pie pan and the bread oven from them too .
If my Pampered Chef opener ever gives up I'll look at the one you have .

I think they may have stopped selling these...not on their website, just eBay as mentioned or $45.
