Sweet Home, Oregon
Well I finally did it and bought a Yoder pellet grill. I have been using lumberjack pellets for a few years with my Fridge smoker with Amazen products.

Out here in Oregon, there are tons of Lumberjacks out in the woods cutting down the trees for houses, paper and of course your beloved toilet paper. BUT, not to much in the way of lumberjack pellets. So I decided it was time to buy so bulk lumberjack pellets and get it send out here.

As I was putting together a list of my favorite pellets to buy, I found out that 100% mesquite was no longer available and only a blend of 60% red oak/ 40%mesquite was available. I also found out the pecan is only available in the same red oak blend and 100% apple is also going in that direction.

Historically I have bought only 100% lumberjack woods and made my own blend of hickory/mesquite or cherry/apple or pecan/cherry. I understand that the 100% lumberjacks pellets have a larger ash content, and with the blend now the ash content is now less so the the strength of the wood flavor.

I still bought a pallet of lumberjack pellets. 100% Hickory and 100% cherry are still my favor base pellets, but I was bummed about the mesquite. I did order some 100% apple since it was available. Last January, I bought 20# bags of 100% woods: mesquite, cherry, apple, pecan, maple and pecan from a guy in Colorado so I'm set for my Amazen smoker products.

Anyone have input on the 60% Red oak blends vs 100% of the desired wood that was ordered?

I haven't heard anything about the hickory blend only.
Did by chance you order everything in 40# bags? 100% hickory is only in 20# bags per the Lumberjack website and that's how I get them from a local dealer.
I know that Lj pecan is a blend, so I get 100% pecan from another source.
I'll ask the local dealer if he has heard anything.

I supposedly ordered ten 100% Hickory in 40# bags, everything else I did in 20# bags. I will find out in a few weeks when the pellets get here. I ordered a full ton. I know I over ordered, but the price was much better in the larger amount. Shipping to Oregon sucks. So ordering the larger bulk gives me better bulk prices and reduces the dollars/pound on shipping. My hopes is to offset the price by selling off half a ton. We will see if it works out.

I went through my contact in Colorado.

I have been wanting some 100% apple and mesquite reckon I wont get none now, going to look at other makers that I may pick up in my travels

Care to provide the 'other source'?

Is this new? I've always got 100% hickory in 40lb bags. Can you let us know exactly where on their website it says that - I looked but didn't see it.

Been buying this for years, 20lb

I get them at Scheels Home and Hardware in Fargo ND which has a large bulk bin selection of pellets sold by the pound. I'm not sure the supplier.

When I looked at the Lumberjack website last night, I thought it listed hickory blend in 40# and 20# bags, with 100% hickory as only 20# bags. That's why I posted the link and asked the question about ordering in 40# or 20# bags.
I should have snipped the page last night to prove myself wrong?
