And I am already in tears. Ernestina just called our vet, we will be having our 12 year old Redbone Coonhound, Red, put to sleep on Monday. Arthritis has slowly been getting worse. Our other elderly pooch had some sort of stomach bug, while she was able to fight it off it looks like he picked it up...is causing him to have real bad diarrhea. He has several fatty tumors, one of which makes him have this dry, hacking cough. I know it is the right thing to do....but knowing this is not helping ease the pain....

This is my first post.... so sorry for what you are going through. It is the greatest act of kindness for our pets tho.
If you have never heard the poem "rainbow bridge" look it up. I'm tearing up thinking of our Sammy we had to put down a few weeks ago as I type this.

Hey Doug

Real sorry to hear about Red.  Even though you knew the time was soon to arrive, it doesn't get any easier.  You know how Miss Linda and I feel about dogs and the pain of having to put one down.  Its hard--but its the right thing to do.  At a time like this, its all about what's best for Red.

We'll be thinking of you Monday

Gary

Doug,

Our pets become part of the fam & that's the way it should be.... I'am very sorry to hear of your circumstance but your doing the right thing ! As much as we miss them as they don't live near long enough, they don't deserve to suffer.... Take peace in you give it a great home & care enough that it won't suffer any longer !

Take care,

Justin

This is the very reason why I have an African Grey...more like 2 of them. RaRa is the older one. He just turned 20....with proper care they Greys will live to be 50. Cheeto, the female, she is about 12. Feel sorry for Desiree, my "step" kid.....both of the birds have an "interesting" vocabulary....

Red has had a great life. We moved up in here in 08 and stopped worrying about him digging...and barking. About 3 years ago we fenced in our five acres and turned him loose. He proceeded to dig several 50 foot long ditches. Found at least one gopher. Has treed several feral cats...and alerted us to several snakes in the yard. Red and his half brother Blue are directly responsible for me becoming interested in Coonhounds. He had a good dinner, Ernie took him out for a walk thru the yard. He came inside and rested for a while then went outside with me when I was cleaning out the Big Green Egg. Sure do love that boy...

It is always hard when they have been part of the family for so long. It has been years since I lost my last dog but i still remember the emptiness afterwards. I will be thinking of you today.
