Look What This #$%^&*# $%^&*%# Did to The Bear’s Yard

I thought this was gonna stop!!

Bear Jr had his 6,000 Sq Ft Tower Shop Pole Barn down the driveway from my house for 16 years, and all kinds of trucks were going down the curved drive to his Pole Barn, mostly making deliveries. I used to watch the Warehouse, and unload all the trucks when they came in. Some of the stuff was valuable, like $300,000 per pallet, so I had to be a little careful unloading with the Fork Lift.

Then he bought a much bigger building for his shop in East Greenville (about 8 miles from here), with 32’ ceilings & 12,000 Sq Ft floor space, and a built in 10 Ton Crane.

I thought this would be Great, because I put up with the truck drivers trying to back down the driveway, and getting off & onto my Yard, sometimes really bad, but now no more deliveries here!!!

Most of the time they would at least apologize, but sometimes not.
I even had one guy borrow a rake & raked the few feet out that he wrecked & threw some of my seed on it. It was easy to rake, because I had just fixed it there, about a week earlier.

Well anyway a few weeks ago, Bear Jr had a personal delivery from CA. It came in a tractor trailer that was about 80’ long. Biggest one to ever come here, and Bear Jr didn’t know it was that big until it was too late, or he would have had him deliver it to another place & he could go pick it up on his trailer. Well this guy drove in head first & missed my 32’ wide entrance by about 12 feet, and then got off the other side for about 100’ before straightening it out before going down the hill, through the woods. Bear Jr ended up having to pull him 3 times with a chain & his Dodge Ram—Twice to get him turned around & back on the driveway, down at the shop, and then he pulled him all the way up the hill. But he got him back on the road, and we were rid of him!!

I lucked out this time, as I was able to fix most of My Yard by driving on the high spots with my Lawn Tractor when the wetness was just right. The one part looks pretty good now, and the other long spot should be fine when the grass fills back in. Bear Jr said if I can’t get it fixed that way, he’ll dig it out & redo it, and that I shouldn’t do any hand work on it.

I think it will be OK, and Bear Jr said it definitely won’t happen again.

Note: I didn't get on the Driver much, because he was very apologetic, and he looked like he was about ready to cry.

The pics below don’t show it that good, but it’ll give you some idea.

It's hard to see, but there are 3 Truck tire tracks, up to 5" Deep X 70' long:

Same as first Pic, but taken from the other end:

This Rut is about 100' long X about 2' to 3' off the other side of the Driveway:

Here you can see the depth of the cut:

Here he got back on the Drive, just before the Drive narrows between trees on both sides, going through the woods:

That S***s I am still trying to get some grass growing, heat is really making it hard.

That sucks! Similar thing happened to my yard but from a tree cutting truck accessing my neighbors yard from the back. Now the lawnmower stalls over the hump they created.

Biggest problem is the compaction of the dirt. It makes it harder for the grass to grow back, and if it's bad enough (like here where "dirt" is Georgia red clay), it can sometimes be too hard for the roots to get re-established. Just make sure to try to loosen the underlying dirt as much as you can. A couple of those ruts look hard compacted (the last 2 photos?).

You could have invoked maritime laws of salvage.... He was stuck and you and to take possession of the rig to get him unstuck, so "salvage rights" apply!!!!

LOL---I'm usually nice to the drivers, as long as they don't give me any crap.
I mean if you're gonna drive around in my yard, at least be a little polite to the owner!!
About 8 years ago, before my Open Heart Surgery screwed me all up:
I had a guy that got off my driveway so far that both back tires were in my yard. He got off the yard far enough that even the back right wheel was off the Left side of the driveway. That one really ticked me off, so not wanting to cause a scene, I called Bear Jr, and told him “That Jerk just got at least 8’ into my yard, and just kept going, instead of stopping pulling front & starting over”. Bear Jr said I should come down and tell him about it.

So I went down & asked him why the #$%& he took the Scenic route through my yard. He was about my size & maybe a little heavier, with a blond pony tail. He stood there smiling. I said, “Do you think it’s f#$^%&*@Funny???—Come up there with me & look at the damage you did”. He said “I’ll see it on the way out”. He didn’t want to go up there with me, because we might be up there alone together. I thought about slamming him right there, but I wisely decided to avoid the Law Suit. So I told him, “I’ll tell you what, since you think it’s funny, when you get back to your dispatcher, I want you to tell him I said you are not allowed to ever come here again, and that I said he should send a Little Girl here to Drive your Truck, because You sure as #$%^ can’t drive it”.

“And you might as well tell him, because I’ll be calling him to tell him too.” We Never saw that driver again!

Dang that's some BS for sure. I'm sure Bear Jr will take care of poppa Bear. But ruts will show up for a long time.

Well, the tire marks at the entrance should be fine by next Spring.
I evened it out some from driving on the high spots, and the Freeze Thaw cycle between now & Spring should take care of the rest.

The funniest one was when a guy backed down the drive, and got off a little bit.
I bitched at him, and he asked if I had a rake he could use & some seed. Then he fixed the damage he did & apologized. He was a nice guy!!!
He said he was sorry, but he did the best he could. Then he came back 3 days later with another load, and he backed all the way down, and never got off the driveway. He got out of the truck & I said, "You lied to me!" He said, "What do you mean?" I said, "The other day you said you did the best you could, and today you stayed on the driveway all the way down". He replied, "Too Damn Hot to rake today!!" LOL
We became good friends over the years. The Fork lift propane tank ran out when he was here the one time, and he grabbed the 80 lb tank & changed it for me. He said, "Take a break, I'll get this".

Funny how that works out sometimes . Some of my best friendships started in a fist fight .

Funny you should say that, many of my Friendships started that way too.
In fact I met a Guy the first day of 10th grade, and we got to hooking & jabbing before the day was over. He ended up my best friend ever since that day. We're both over 70, and both been to Vietnam & back, and I still call Jack my Best Friend, even though I only see him a couple times a year.

One year we had a septic truck back into our driveway and totally miss the driveway. He left some huge tire divots in our front yard. Really sucked, and it took a while to get it flatten out.

Yeah, I used to have at least a dozen Trucks screw up my yard each year, while my Son's Pole Barn was their main business place, but I thought that was over now that he moved it to the new building. And all of those Trucks used to be between 45' and 65' long, and none like this 80' monster.
Last year I had a Propane Truck put big tracks in my front yard, but by driving my Cadet on the high spots, plus the Winter Freeze-Thaw, it's as good as new now.
