Lab grown meat? I don't think so...!

Lab grown meat... would I eat it?... I'm in control of my eating habits and as long as there is edible animals in my vicinity I will not smoke, out of pantry dish, meat.... What about you?

A genetically perfect lab grown steak is akin to something out of Star Trek but like an artificially created diamond, they are molecularly identical.

Seeing as the inputs for burger or steak would be the same, meat cuts would likely be lower priced and you could get prime rib for the same cost as brisket.

Even better that an animal doesn't have to be raised for slaughter to provide me the meat. I am all in on this.

I'm for the real thing, don't want anything to eat grown in a lab. Have been around livestock all my life, even had some that were pets...still knew where it's end game was gonna be.

I like my steaks, or pork shoulder steak, or lamb with all possible trimmings that goes with... fat and juicy for a full flavour... I can't imagine nice slab of bacon with all imperfections being produced in the lab... they all must look identical...

Although some things I cook I'm not sure or at least the family wonders.

I'm with JC on this one. The possibility of the lab grown reducing the costs associated with eating meat is a massive thing for this world as a whole. This can help alleviate the financial strain that is a contributing factor to the poor dietary choices that are often associated with being a member of the lower class. Also, as JC pointed out this would also lessen the need for livestock to be raised specifically for butcher.

Don't misunderstand, I'm not a bleeding heart that doesn't enjoy a bloody steak. But if the same product can be created artificially, that contains all the same textures, flavors and usability; and can make it more affordable, then why wouldn't you be interested?

People have been manipulating Genetics to get certain desirable traits in animals and produce forever! 100 years ago, there were 4 or 5 varieties of Apples. Now there are DOZENS of varieties. As a kid I ate Plums and Apricots. 50 some years later my Wife is bringing home PLUMCOTS from the store! Beef animals, there is Black Angus, Wagyu and Piedmontese Beef cattle. All have different traits and meat characteristics but all came from a common Ancestor.
So, what difference does it make if genetic manipulation takes Decades of manipulative Breeding or Months of Gene manipulation in a Lab? If the result is Cheaper, high Quantity and Quality Beef then I'm willing to try it.
The only part of Genetic Modification that worries me, the Crazy, could not possibly happen in Nature, combinations of Genes that get predictable AND unpredictable results that could have negative side effects....
Like, Splicing Spider and Poultry Genes to get an Eight Legged Turkey! Then finding Venom makes eating the Breast Meat Deadly!...JJ

As I see it alot of members here are members because of the enjoyment of smoking meat, but so many of us enjoy curing our own bacon and such so we know what's in what we are eating. I wouldn't trust it...besides, I don't want to listen to all the lawyer commercials in about 10 years...if you ate genetically grown meat you might be eligible for compensation, call now! Lol

So... let me see... If I order hot dog I may get literally hot dog... I may have option of cocker spaniel, american bulldog or husky hot dog... all they gotta do is take a tissue sample and lab grow hot dog... how about kids meal hot dog... chihuahua perhaps...lol... or celebrity salami... tissue sample taken from John Travolta and grown in lab... 30% Travolta rest of it beef... lovely blend...

Reality is, in some countries one man's Dog is another man's Dinner...Americans seem to have the Luxury of calling this Animal my Pet and that Animal my Food. However, in many countries, Our Pets, Dogs, Horses, Guinea Pigs, are just another variety of Meat Protein...JJ

As much as I'd be inclined to stick with my natural meat as it is currently raised and produced, there is another huge negative impact this could have. I'm quite surprised that Ryan ( @Brokenhandle ) and Adam ( @pc farmer ) have not mentioned. Think of all the ranchers / farmers that raise the animals being put completely out of work due to machines now producing the meat. Also you'd have the grain farmers unemployed due to no longer having the the necessity of the grain for the animals. Maybe I'm just weird but I have the same respect for farmers / ranchers as I do for law enforcement and first responders; a huge amount, and not just since the pandemic started. Without them, we all pretty much starve or are forced to eat weird things. It may be on the horizon to have nothing but laboratory created meat but as long as I have natural meat, I think I'm gonna stick with that. Sure, I'd try the artificially created stuff just to see what it's all about but I believe that's where it would end for me.

Understandable and we all have to respect others choices but for me, to get nice doggie steak with all trimmings I would have to look for St. Bernadine, nothing less...

Wow where will this go I'm mean no I'm not a veggie burger person but can they do real tissue meat? If so from what parent tissue? Many countries do in fact as JJ said enjoy our pets as their food.
