So I bought two 18 lbs bags of kingsford competition as a special deal at my discount club. They cost me $16.00. Awesome right?
So I went to use them in my weber kettle
And they burn so fast it's not funny . I ended up using more than I would have using reg old kingsford.
Yes there was very little ash but is that the point.
Anyone else agree?

It sounds as if they're best suited for direct heat grilling. I have seen them, but I've never used them and judging by your post, I don't believe I will.

Kingsford comp are designed for high heat, ready to cook fast, and 100% natural.  Sure they burn quicker than blue bag, but they also burn hotter.  I have/ do use it in my smoker because of the low ash (compared to blue bag.)  I find Kingsford Comp to be a charcoal that falls right between blue bag and lump.  Convenience of briquette, natural ingredients/ low ash.  Yea, it does burn "faster" and hotter, but not in a uncontrollable way that lump sometimes can.

Still, I will use pretty much any "name brand" charcoal. My prefered brand is "SALE!"  lol

I had two bags of the Kings Comp in the garage a while back and noticed how fast they burned. Then I mistakenly dropped a cold briquette in my water pan when adding fuel to my fire. It dissolved in a matter of seconds! I realized then it creates less ash because it is packed less densely. That's why it burns so hot and quickly too.

I use to use Kingsford before they cut the "groove" in the briquets.  I believe this was a cost savings to them more than a quick starting method as they promoted.  Before they did that you could close the vents on your weber and put the coals out to save for the next que, but not with the new less denser coals that burnt up regardless.  I complained to them in an email and never heard a word back.  I use Royal Oak now because it is cheaper even though it burns up just as fast.  I can control my heat with my vents, just give me a dense piece of charcoal that last.  I don't need no gimmicks.

I close the vents and reuse the KBB bricks all the time in both my Kettle and WSM. Kingsford has started cutting bag size though. I'll get over it probably. Time will tell. I get Home Depot gift cards from work for winning contests so I haven't paid out of pocket for KBB in a long time.

candy bars are smaller now & cost more...way of the corporate world profiteers. Nobody mentioned that cheap crap bricks are terrible albeit had a lesser price. I but the Comps at Costco AND get the instant savings promo given in Spring and truthfully, never noticed a fast burn. I let the coals burn down anyways to avoid flareups and scorched steaks 'cause I like a beer or 3 and sometimes get sidetracked with a DDD rerun. I'll buy 2 packs (actually 4 bags at Costco) near end of Summer to get me through Winter grilling. I like the fact of no BS additives in them and hoping I'm not being duped by a gimmick. I bought Cowboy Lump once as a try out and found asbestos insulation if the bag...WTF?? last time ever for those. I dunno...to each his own I guess...I never really noticed it....Willie

funny, I got some competition last weekend and yes they burn hot and fast. Used a whole bag where normally I would use about half. I will be sticking with regular unless it's on super sale.

Yeah.... I ignore the Kingsford Competition. Burns way to fast in my WSM and I end up having to re-load mid smoke, but with the KBB I can go the entire smoke without re-loading. I wait till the box stores have two of the 18.6 lb. bags of KBB on sale for under $10, then stock up with 200+ lbs.
