This was a great episode watching Jr try his heart out and fun as a dad to watch. IMHO he was trying too hard to beat his dad, that's not how you win. You never win by trying to beat someone else, you win by focusing on yourself & your team. To me it seemed like he was trying too hard to sell his food, wear his dads shoes and less on letting his food sell itself. Myron can be cocky because he has the record to back it up. Gotta love Jr's spirit though, if he would have won his first time out, it would not have done him any favor. Winning is something that should be worked hard for and cherished with humility when achieved. While I believe he will be a grand champion some day, he'll appreciate it much more with some failures along the road. To JR, I wish him the best of luck. To Pops, well done & congratulations on the win. An excellent episode for sure.

I also watched the show and enjoyed it . Jr. done a good job , and will be as good as Myron someday , he needs practice, practice, practice !

and when daddy is showing him the ropes, Listen and Pay Attention , because Myron knows his stuff !

What show was this? What time and station...JJ

Pitmasters: Father v/s Son, I'm sure they'll air it a bunch over the next few weeks.  Agreed it was better than the majority of this seasons episodes (some were real stinkers, especially the Kentucky one), but the younger Mixon was amping it up for the TV camera as well.  He has been out competing and doing well, but this was his first Big Pig Jig in Myrons parents hometown of Vienna, GA.   This was more of what most Pitmasters viewers want, back to filming at actual comps, showing the inner workings of comp cooking.  Season 1 still gets some airtime from my DVR at home, especially now that football is almost over with.

I got a chance to watch last night, I had recorded it.  It was a pretty fun episode to watch.  Myron making the kid go cut his peach wood.  You could definitely tell the kid was nervous during his first presentation.  He did seem to relax a bit but he will need to practice that part as well.

I just saw this episode yesterday, and I also thought it was better than the usual three just competing against each other. I liked how they showed leading up to the competition as well. It would be neat if they would show competitions and follow a few teams up and through the competition.

Anyways, I though Jr. was awful when talking to the judges - way too cheesy and laid it on way too think.... "I hope I spoiled you," he said as he delicately held a female judge's hand. Ha. He doesn't seem like someone I would want to talk BBQ with.

My thoughts exactly.

That is what the very first season was like.  I actually liked that the season the best.

I thought the same about juniors presentation. Way too corny. If I was a judge I would have been put off. Didn't gain any points in that dept.

I will have to look for that season, BBQBrett. I thought it was interesting to see them pack their luggage and frantically search for things (Jr. did anyways). It reminded me of the little things that go wrong when I BBQ or grill. ****Hm, where did I put my tongs? Ha.****

All I can say is, I hope Jr saw the episode and realized that his presentation, how can I put it lightly, sucked!!! I would feel like I was in the presence of a stalker. One thing he has going for him is, he gets to go watch the DVR & see what he did wrong. None of the lesser known BBQ'rs get that chance. Hopefully he'll set that ego aside and use it to his benifit.
