I'm excited! I just purchased a Big Chief electric smoker for the sole purpose of making jerky.

I cant wait to see how good it tastes compared to the ol' liquid smoke i've been using for years with my dehydrator.

Congrats!  Keep us up to date on your progress and good luck!

Don't worry - you will not be let down!  You're gonna wonder how you managed to get by with that liquid stuff...  Just make sure you post pics

Joe, morning and welcome to the forum....   You will be very happy with the Big Chief.... More jerky has been made in them over the years and it is good....  I recommend getting an accurate thermometer and check to see it is calibrated so you know the temps in the smoker...   Use a small amount of chips at a time, probably 1/4 cup or so for thin blue smoke....  I smoked for years on my Totem Smoker which is the same unit and made great smoked foods...   Finally I switched to "cookies" for a wood source seen in the pics below...    Dave

I've owned a Big Chief for over 10 years and love it. Besides a good thermometer, add the AMNPS cold smoke generator and you will be turning out some killer bacon.

thanks for the tips! I surely need them! The big chief should be here by tuesday. I will post some pics once I get it going.

Ya'll have a great weekend.....

The bacon is a great idea!!!

I have never done that before...  To show my ignorance, i must ask, what would i buy to "make bacon"? pork belly?

Yes, pork belly for regular bacon and pork butt for buckboard bacon.  (use search bar above....buckboard bacon)  That's going to be my next experiment.
