Hi all.  Let me cover the questions:

Who you are:  54 yr old.  30 yr mechanical engineer in the aerospace industry.  Avid cook, vegetable gardener good hunter and I love long walks on the beach in the rain (maybe not)

What your skill level is:  I've smoked meat.....maybe 3-5 pounds worth by now.  Other than that....brand new smoker

What part of the world you live in:  Southern California

Your first name:  Al

Anything else you feel comfortable telling us. Covered above.

Tell us a little about what smoker or grill you are using that way if you ask a question, we'll have a better idea of how to answer:  Well, for newbies I hear the Masterbuilt #20070910 30-Inch is the way to go for electric smokers.  To start, I think I'm *leaning* toward electric.  Thinking of the MES or the Char-Broil Deluxe Digital Electric Smoker.  Not sure if I should post this question here or in another part of the forum?

All inputs are most welcome and thank you very much for them.

Welcome to the forum!

Glad to have you aboard!

Have you considered a charcoal smoker?

The WSM 22.5 is a very good smoker. It holds temps well, and is easy to operate.

Once you get used to it, it is really just as set & forget as an electric smoker.

And you get the charcoal/wood flavor.
