In prior mil. Attached a pic. The 6 stars on the bottom of my coin is old school representation of a Navy group I spent alot of time at.
Not wanting a political debate, not gonna argue or try to convince anyone to change parties or beliefs.
Curious as to member here on their opinions on gun ownership. Not specifics.
To start, my stance. AR's. Most understood weapon in modern society. Assault Rifle. A term coined by anti gun advocates for the firearm. (Research it, not gonna waste time on that).
Background checks. All the proposals are pretty much what's in place already.
Whenever "full auto" is mentioned, I lose respect for that news source.
There are two documented uses of a full auto weapon in the US for defensive use. A rep having a mini 14 was involved in a road rage incident that I cant find on 1 page of Google and Harry Beckwith.
AR's. Common are 5.56. A round pretty much the same as a .22, traveling faster. The damage comes from an effect called cavitation.
The round impacts and causes a shock wave damaging body parts.
I am not arguing one way or another, just stating facts one hope of educated replies.
To put some perspective. I grew up hunting. Deer, hogs, birds.
If you have made it this far, curious on membere opinions.
Not gonna jump in and start an argument.

I’m in full belief we have the right to bear arms if fully approved to do so. I own several guns. I carry one on me (legally) every day, keep one in my vehicle at all times, and several in my home. I have young kids who I have taught very well in the rights and wrongs about them. I’ll be damned if someone is going to try to come in my home and I’m not going to protect my wife and kids. AR or .22 doesn’t matter. Sorry don’t know if that’s your question but just my stance on firearms. Smoke on!

"AR" doesn't mean assault rifle. It means Armalite Rifle. The successor to the M-14 with a 308 round (and the same mag). The powers that be decided a 223 round was better suited to warfare. I get tired of people that don't know what "AR' actually means.

I fully support gun ownership, if legal to do so. I also carry daily, legally. In the words of Mr. T, I pity the fool... that tries to hurt me or mine. I used to hunt on a regular basis, before the military. Now I'm trying to get back to it, but work tends to get in the way.

Guns? I'm fer 'em. Especially the fully semi automatic ones I read so much about. In fact all of my semi autos are fully semi auto.

I've never had to use one in self defense but I did escort a homeless junky out of my house at shotgun point almost a year ago. He'd vandalized my neighbors green house evidently looking for pot. Police arrived and he decided to crawl thru my kitchen window early morning to hide. Imagine his surprise when he turned around to see a 12 gauge pointed at his head. Ran him out the front door and called 911. They got him a 1/2 block away. It very well could have gone differently if I'd have been unarmed. Which I'll never be.

I understand the "AR and Armalite" connotation. Glad others do.
The reason for this post is my curiosity to see the general concecus of members.
It was my idea that members where generally pro firearms and ownership.
I admit I'm a little bit of an aberrant spike in averages.
I had a previous job of making people lay down and quit breathing.

IMO, the AR is the most beautifully designed rifle on the market today.. Breaks down easily and fast.... Cleaning is easy... Simple and effective auto sequencing.. All the parts are interchangeable.. Accurate.... A variety of "add on" parts are easily fitted to the frame.. Variety of twist rate barrels can be added in a few seconds... You can even change the "caliber" by changing a few parts..
It's a rifle that's "pure genius"....

In the 1990s I was a caretaker of a riddgetop property in east-central Ohio. The driveway climbed about 200 feet, and halfway up there was a level pad graded into the hillside, where an oil well had been, since removed. It was about the size of a basketball court.

It was absolutely perfect for target practice, with a tall earth embankment as a backing. A 12-gauge and a gallon jug with a handful of gravel in it.

I am all for people's right to guns. People tend to forget though that there are a goon number of semi-auto rifles out there besides the AR. I think it tends to get a bad rep as it looks different or more "military" than most of the others.

Dianne Feinstein admitted that for her last attempted "assault weapon" ban her and her staffers paged thru a gun catalogue and picked out all the scary looking ones. Even though function is essentially the same as all semi-auto rifles such as hunting rifles, shotguns or a 10-22. Its always those that know absolutely nothing about firearms that try to enact legislation limiting or banning their use/possession.

Regardless of what "AR" stands for, and M16 & an AR15 are both assault rifles, and regardless of the "Story", they were designed mainly to kill as many people as possible in as short a time as possible.
I walked with & slept with one for long enough, and in my opinion no civilian needs one. There are enough other weapons on the market that should fill the needs of civilians. I have 13 weapons of my own & none of them are single projectile auto or semi-automatic rifles.
Also in all my time in Vietnam, it was a rare thing for my M16 to be set on anything but "Semi", because Semi-Automatic was far better in an actual fire fight.

I wouldn't take any law abiding American's weapon away, but I am fully in favor of background checks, and keeping weapons out of the hands of known Looney-Tunes. I also don't see the need for a magazine that holds more than 8 shots, but maybe I'm just a better shot than most.

I'm not here to argue with anyone, as my opinions are only my opinions.
Army guys got to play with a lot of fun weapons.

BTW: IMO, this forum is not the place for Political discussions, and Gun control is about as political as you can get, however I decided to make my comment, because I believe I have a little more experience with assault weapons than most.

I'm for the Right to Bear Arms. I pack every day because carrying a sidearm is part of my job. The rest of the time I carry because it's my right and some of my neighbors are sketchy looking, the way we refer to it at the office "JDLR" (they Just Don't Look Right).
