This song was a product of the 55 mph speed limit the Fed govt put in place due to our " energy crisis " . Truckers started using CB radios so they could break the limit. They had money on the line, not only paying a higher price for fuel but it took them longer to make a run.

Never paid any attention to hidden messages in the song.
I used to hear it played many times a night on local radio station in October. That is our "campaign" to harvest sugar beets with hundreds of trucks on the roads. Still played, but I got moved to daylight shift.
