First off welcome to SMF and were glad to have you aboard. We need some more information. What kind of smoker are you using along with the iQue110. Maybe some pictures of the vents in question would help us to better answer your questions
If your using a WSM with the iQ, and you want to rmove ash with the vents closed I simply remove the hose from the adapter attached to the cooker and dump the ash (slowly) into a galvenized garabage can I bought for that purpose. That way, I don't start yesterday's trash on fire by dumping into the household garbage can. Those ashes can be sneeky funny how long they stay warm.
I have had some great success with Publix lump. I find that a full ring will last well over 12 hrs in the cool temps I've been cooking in up to now. I imagine longer in warmer temps.
