I'm from Oregon, a Mom who love to grill.  We have 4 children and they all like the outdoors. Daughter loves grilling and Smoking, so thought I'd check in here and find the perfect dbl door smoker for our Outdoor Son for his holiday gift.   Oregongal-

Welcome to the forum, always nice to see fellow Oregonians here!

I highly suggest you talk to your son about the smoker first - the reason being that there are many differant smokers and depending on the person using them some work better for that person than others. Keep in mind things like type of fuel (gas, wood, charcoal, or electric), will you have to move the smoker a lot to get it under storage or is there a covered area for it..... You get the idea

.... spend some time reading the forums on the differant smokers then ask question!

Now... that being said, I went the charcoal route and am the proud owner of a 22.5" Weber Smokey Mountain (WSM) smoker.

I really wanted to get back to charcoal after many many years of natural gas grilling. Made the mistake of spending $175 on a cheap side fire box smoker that worked OK after making a bunch of modifications to it. I then sold that smoker for $80 on craigslist, and stepped up to a WSM - and have never looked back! The WSM is as close to set-it-and-forget-it as you can get with a charcoal smoker, and it holds a TON of meat!

Thank you for your reply.  I spoke to him and we think that propane would work best for his needs. Seems like double door might be more convenient.  He hunts and fishes, so think he would get lots of use out of  it.  Oregongal

Wow! What a frendly group.  I'll get my California Daughter onto the forum.  She was given a smoker and is having a very good time with it.

She has been smoking salmon lately and is interessted in smoking cheese.  I've sent her some instructions.

When my Son and Daughte-in-law receive a gift soon of a smoker, they'll be onboard too.  Best Wishes, Oregongal
