Ft Lauderdale.
I just finished my first 10-12 hour cook on my new OK JOE reverse flow highland (more on that later) Iam a fan of thermo pro thermometers and used a 2 probeTP17 and an old TP16. two probes for meat, nd one on clip for chamber temp. some of my probes acted finicky and seemed loose losing connection/temp. a little diddling and they reconnected. I'm giving thermopro a chance to reply on the interoperability with legacy probes and head units. In the interim I searched and found the inkbird IBBQW-4t on this forum and it piques my interest with the wifi and app availability. I would be cool to have to run to Publix and get a heat alarm (when connected to wifi) so I could alert my sous-chef (wife) to change damper settings in my absence.
has anybody put one of these through the paces for reliability and stamina? thermopro has been very good to me with warranty on my instant reads and i want to give them a chance but they don't have a wifi/app unit.
TIA
john

I have the Inkbird your asking about. Have used it hard for well over a year now. I have no complaints. And yes Ive ran to the grocery and keep an eye on the cooker via my phone. The only issue I had was getting it to connect to wifi at the house. But the inkbird website worked me through it. All in all I love the inkbird.

I love mine!! I have used it about a half dozen cooks now and have had no issues. i have had to make a run to town and have dropped in to check on my temps. I would recommend based on my experience

Enjoy your purchase. Had mine since January 2021 and definitely have no complaints. It's been dropped, left out in SC heat/humidity, used in both professional and home kitchen environments, in brewing and checking fermentation temps all without any equipment issues. 🍻

I've used mine about twenty times and no problems the wifi connection and battery life is great, the temp probes and water resistance so far has been good, alarm notifications work both at the unit (continuous beeps) the phone will only give you a notification and whatever sound you have associated with notifications so it can be missed. Make sure your wifi broadcasts a 2.4ghz signal.

I asked on another thread as well, but if the rubber probe tip melts off, will the temps read inaccurately? Probably a dumb question....

Not a dumb question at all! IMHO, the rubber tip is for protecting the probe tip from damage and stabbing oneself and should be removed prior to use. At least that's what I've done. It's probably somewhere in the instruction which I never read. The rubber tip will shield the probe tip and regester incorrectly. I removed it on two of the ones I used and didn't "check" one I took from the box, used it not removing the rubber tip. Couldn't understand why that one probe didn't hit temp like the other ones did? Removed the probes from the sausage and found one had the rubber tip still on it.... yep, the one that registered low! LOL!🍻🍻

Thanks! Someone on the other thread said remove the tips. D'oh! I did and tested in boiling water and they are accurate.
