I went bargain basement with the $200 Masterbuilt from Sam's.
4 butts or 3 flat placed racks of pork ribs if you want size comparison.

You're not a newbie.
I hope you realize bark is less a function of brand and model of your smoker/grill (stick, charcoal, gas, electric, or pellet) than cooking temperature and the amount of sugar in your rub.

I've got a GMG Daniel Boone Prime and I like it, but there were some things I had to do to it to get it to behave for me. Primarily, sealing the lid. There were gaps, so I got some RTV650 and made a form-in-place gasket on the lid that has dramatically improved heat retention and temp stability. I've also started using a water pan, and I find this helps keep any beef I cook nice and moist. I just use a disposable aluminum steam table pan and lay a separate grill over the top. Oddly enough, I only have to do this with beef, such as briskets and chucks. All the pork I've cooked on the main grate has come out nice and moist. Next mod I'm looking into is a downdraft from Dan Godke.

I agree with the Sugar content in rub. I guess I'm scared of not having that smokey flavor.

I will have my old propane smoker from Walmart and used it this weekend. It works very well. I always use the Water Pan also

Thanks .. I actually just saw that today. If I have an issue I'll buy one.

Also thanks to everyone for the advice. I decided to go with the Rec-Tec RT- 340 . Now I'm searching for reviews on different pellets.

Good luck. RecTec have a great rep. I'm sure you will enjoy it. I use BBQers Delight brand and have been happy. The A-Maze-N tube works good and I have not noticed any more ash when I use it than when I do not.

good call! I use the rec tec ultimate blend for everything. I find it to have the right flavor for me. Amazon delivers. Lots of guys use Lumberjack, but I have not tried these. Ultimate blend from cookinpellets perfect mix i have tried, good but not a strong enough flavor for me.

Try a couple types and see what you like. I am lazy and sought out a pellet that I could use with all meats without maintaining various types, swapping pellets etc.

You can't go wrong with Lumberjack pellets.
