I'll bet the vast majority of SMF users have at one time or another purchased something for this hobby that at the time seemed like a good idea.

I'm also willing to bet that if you share your gift/impulse purchase with the forum, someone out there will want one of what you once thought was a good idea.

How about sharing that purchase or two that was destined to put your smoking meat life onto easy street.

Here's mine - this Christmas my bride and a friend had a girl day out shopping. The went to several fabric stores, IKEA, and a couple of kitchen gadget stores. She snagged this at Sur La Table in Dallas.

Maybe for that first all nighter?

Nice idea, does it come with a helmet/cap? I'm always runiing out of light when smoking, this would help.

have a biger one with a clamp also..........love it!

the one thing i got that i could do without is a remote monitoring thermo...........go figure!

No helmut or cap - this is their cap solution.

I tried to get it to work but flexible shaft was a bit to stiff to make the proper bends. You could straighten the shaft then clip it to the side of a ball cap bill.

Just a thought

Before my last big smoke I bought a foldable 4 ft. hard plastic table at Sams for $37. Has a carrying handle on it and extendable legs that bring it up to 36" height. Really was nice being able to have a small table next to the smoker while I worked.

This is what I use

I bought it for hunting, but works when I need a free hand while smoking in the dark. Plus it's got a strobe setting should it turn into a party

I second this one! I work in the entertainment industry and having your hands free and able to work while being able to see in the dark is a priority!

I bought one of these on Woot this morning, Figured it would be good for working on computers that way I would have a hands free light.

Now I have done alot of smoking in the dark or several all nighters so I happened to have a old canoe laying around so I used it and everything is well lite too. I mounted the lights (6) in the canoe as you can see below.

My backyard has no patio cover is just a concrete slab. I had an old desk lamp that is on adjustable spring like a draftsman table light. I hook it to one of the roof trusses, and use it for both grilling and smoking.
