Now there's one sitting in a box in my driveway!

A week ago we there was a grand opening for a new farm and feed store here. My mom went to pick up some bird feed and while there entered the drawing that they had. Well she one the one thing she really didn't want. A Traeger Lil Tex Elite. So now I have a pellet smoker. Guess I' ll put it together and line it up with the rest of the smokers out back... My wife is going to FLiP!

Never had one either, but who knows, you might end up loving it !!!

Congrats!!!

Leave it in the box for a while and try to sell it on Craigslist. I bet you could get $500 for it brand new...

Thought about it. There was one on our CL here in box for most the summer. Started at $600, last price was $400. Must of sold.

I'm gonna put it together, cause He who dies with the most smokers wins!

Even if I do I won't show it! I've given my cousin so much crap about his he'd never let me hear the end of it!
I can imagine your cousin showing up unexpectedly and catching you using it. The thought of it made me laugh out loud when I read your post. (My wife is looking at me like I'm crazy.) I have been in those situations before where I have poked fun at my friends about something and then been caught doing the very same thing. Sometimes it can be hard to explain away.

Ha! Yeah that won't happen! They don't do anything that isn't planned to the second!

Got a feeling you might learn to love it, dirt. Get a gasket around the lid and use one of those amazn tubes you have for good smoke and you might really like that convection oven effect smoker.

See that's one if the things that bugs me about the Traeger. You'd think that a pellet pooper would cook and produce good smoke without needing a second smoke source!

Case free is free! You did not buy it, you did not win it. Your mom dumped her junk on you. So out of compassion to not hurt your moms feelings. You decided to set it up and get it dirty at least once...... after all it is your mom we are talking about.

I agree. Why would you need a secondary smoke source for a smoker? I could see if cold smoking.

Use it on your lazy day cooks.

Hey if you dont want it I will pay the shipping.

I agree too, that you should not need a smoke source, but I know nothing about pellet poopers.

Unless like with my pellet stove that I heat my house with:

The only time it smokes is when I start it.

The pellets come in through the back of the burn pot.

Then the sparks start shooting through the pellets (coming from the igniter).

Then the whole stove fills with thick smoke.

Then when the flame ignites, the smoke begins to clear out through the chimney, and all the smoke is completely gone in less than 15 seconds.

That's it-----No more smoke shows up anywhere until the next time I let it burn out & have to start it again.

So maybe a pellet pooper isn't supposed to make smoke----only heat.

Just my guess.

Maybe a Veteran Pellet Pooper user can clear this up for us????

The wife finally saw the box... Think I'll need to save the box so I have somewhere to sleep!!!

The higher the temp on the pellet munchers the less smoke. If you cook at 225 or below then you may be ok, but with higher heat and the fan going you tend to get less smoke. Now I have to ask, dirtsailor, and some others here.... if you don't agree with a smoker needing a secondary smoke generator, why do you all own the Amazn smoke generators?

Some smokers need another smoke source, some don't.

My uds and mini doesn't. My mes, I use the amnps.

I feel true charcoal and stick burners don't need a secondary smoke source.

I use mine for cold smoking where there is no other heat source.

Case, honestly I never thought I'd have one either but I LOVE my GMG ! I know I get crap from it but I set it & it's a done deal. She's as rock solid temp wise as you can get ! I know y'all are about your minis & I get the charcoal thing..... Been grillin/smokin with charcoal for a long, long while ! Still do, I still like charcoal & my weber kettle a bunch ! Give the pellets a chance & I think you'll like it a bunch.... For what it's worth, I started out using BBQ'ers Delight as they are a great pellet but switched to Camp Chef & they are awesome and bout $5 a bag cheaper...., they are clean burning & really efficient ! Congrats man, just go with it ! Thumbs Up
