I recently purchased my 3rd MES 40 from SAMS Club, on clearance for $200.
Yesterday, I finally unboxed and assembled it.

My oldest unit was finally retired and given to my brother to use.

So, why did I purchased (3) of these?

For $299 the MES 40 is a "Good Value"
    - Cost to purchase is reasonable
    - Cost per hour to operate is cheap

    Masterbuilt has "Good Customer Support"
    - Customer service has been very responsive
    - Darryl is a member of SMF, and watches the forum

The MES 40 has "Good Quality Construction"
    - Digital Controller w/Remote
    - 275° Heat Limit
    - Wide enough for a full rack of ribs
    - Good temp control
    - EZ to use!
    - 1200 watt element for quick recovery

I use one or two of the MES 40's, just about every day for smoking or testing one of my gadgets. Sometimes they run for 24 hours straight. It's almost 2 years since I got my first MES 40, and I can say I have well over 1,000 hours logged on them.

Sure, they have some limitations, but for $300, the MES is a "Good Value" for an electric smoker!

I love my MES 40. I think it is the best buy ever for me.

P.S. thanks Todd for the extra fast delivery on my AMNPS.

The MES is a great starter smoker, but is also a GREAT addition to an experienced smoker's arsenal.

Dollar For Dollar, it's tough to beat!

  8. I've got a Kingfisher trailer rig: rotisserie stickburner and WSM and have had other charcoal and stickburners.

I love them, but bought the MES40 at Sam's specifically for sausage and bacon. After researching here and buying one of Todd's mazes I'm very please with it. The insulation makes slow smoking a snap (after factoring in FL weather!). Keeping low temps, ie. 200 or below for bacon, sausage, and jerky is easy thanks to the digital controls. As Todd said, it's a great addition to the arsenal.

I have to agree. I think the MES may be the best smoker for all around smoking. It seems to have no limitations. You can smoke anything cold (with the AMNPS) or hot or in between with precise temp. control, and it is reasonably priced. I had a 40 for a couple of years & sold it to a friend who is still using it. I wish I still had it because I have been making sausage & would welcome the temp control the MES had. I may have to pick one up just for sausage.
