I have left my digi-cam memory card in the card reader slot of my 'puter tower and/or left the battery in the charger...

...walked outside to the smoker(s) to check pull-back on ribs, or shrinkage on a pork butt, expecting something positive to happen when I touched the power-up button...

This must happen to me at least once every other time I'm doing a long smoke.

I must have CRS! LOL!!!

My camera downloads straight to my computer so I don't have to take the card out but my old camera I used to do that all the time. My wife always takes the card out to download on the other computer and doesn't put it back into the camera.

Heh-heh! I'm just the opposite...I got tired of fumbling with the cord, so I pop out the card. This saves having to power up the camera to dump pics, also.

I also download direct to my PC, but I do keep an extra pair of rechargeable batteries in the camera case... just in case.

I purposely bought a Canon A590 that takes regular AA batteries, no charging needed, and plug into the computer, no fumbling with cards, only takes a sec to d/l.  I buy the 40 packs at RadioShack and always have a handy supply, keep one in my truck, too; they're a dispenser pack so they don't go all over, take one on trips, etc., more than enough battery power ready and on-the-go, don't have to worry about charging or taking chargers, if I do forget batteries they're only a convenience store or RadioShack away.

I don't share a lot of photos, it is a big head ache, but when I do, I d/l direct to the PC,  I usually do this while I'm reading posts on SMF.

We always forget the cards.  My wife tends to grab the camera and go without thinking about a card.  Its usually still in the card reader also.  We have missed out on a lot of photo of the kids at ball games because of that.  Because of that also I have several cards scattered all around.  I usually keep an extra one in the truck.  But that one usually ends up getting forgot about in the card reader also. lol.  Thats probably why I try to get cell phones that have a good camera.

Being it is my business, I always have spares of batteries and cards. Even have a car charger for batteries. Being digitals pretty much eat batteries, rechargables  are the only way to go, but a set of old fashion ones as an emergency back up is not a bad idea.

What I try to do, so I do not forget cards or batteries is leave the doors open on the camera when they are not installed.

What Flash said.  I have a multi reader on the front of my PC now and I pull the card out.  I never close the cover until everything is in there.  I have one camera that will take pics even without a card but you have to plug it in to get the pics off of it when you do that...lost 10 or so great pics when I did that...grrr!
