It is a great way to relax and unwind...until the neighboorhood kids come over to see what I am smoking.  It is still a lot of fun and pretty relaxing even then.
large broken bottles on top of the fence where they are easily visible. Leave a couple of gaps in the glass at different places and sneak in some mouse traps, it always makes for a good laugh. J/K.....

I know this thread is 2 weeks old, but sqwibs first post was so inspirational that I just have to add something.

I've always been a good sleeper. My poor wife has to drag me out of bed for work every morning. And we're talking 6:45 here...nothing too crazy or early.

I knew almost immediately that I was an addict when I started smoking meats back in 2010. We frequently hosted parties for family and pulled pork was always on the menu. My bro and I would have some beers Friday night, rub the pork butts, saran wrap them and into fridge to marinate overnight.

I would go to bed with paprika stains on the tips of my fingers (even after washing) and I swear that I could still smell the rub in my dreams. (I was probably itching my nose in my sleep, but you get the idea..)

Then, as if the sandman knew I had work to do, my eyes would *blink* open at 4am sharp! No alarm, no wife, no rooster......just the excitement of knowing I got smoking to do.

Sqwib's post describes the rest, but all I know is smoking is the only thing I will voluntarily lose sleep over.....

I have to agree with you Humdinger.  Started a Boston Butt Saturday night and it needed to come off about 8 the next morning.  Well friends were over and we had a great time sitting around drinking and time really few by.  Ended up going to bed around 4 a.m.  No alarm or anything, BAM up at 7:30.

I used to sit in our boat and float down the river fishing for relaxation, now I've found there's nothing better then sitting down with our dog skid-mark and smoke the afternoon away. The only tense time is when the Yankee's blow another game(which was quite frequent this year). One other benefit of smoking is skid-mark doesn't pay any attention to the other dogs in our neighborhood while the que is on.

Keep on smoking in the free world

I'm feeling like something is not right for the weekend.  No plans for anything on the smoker.  Kids school fair is this weekend.  Hoping to survive a smokeless weekend.  Wish me luck.

Man, it's the most relaxing thing in the world to me!

It's rare time that I get to spend with my youngest son or friends.

There is nothing like a few cold drinks and a big hunk of meat on the smoker.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to do any smoking or BBQing of late, thanks to my new job.  I'm looking forward to a long weekend when I can put on some ribs or a brisket.

LOL... I am sitting here laughing smelling my hands from the smoke thinking how funny it would look to someone else. LOL You know I'd have to give some smart a$$ remark if asked like, I had been scratching the part where the body meets the saddle, wanta smell? LOL

Smoking four chickens and a few links of sausage today.  Looking forward to just sitting outside in the heat (I am in South Texas) and enjoying a cigar with my friends over.  Wife is stressed out about all the "other" things like, is the floor mopped?  Is the bathroom clean?  Is the house straight?  Where are we going to seat everyone?  Blah, blah blah...

It always seems to work out OK but I think she lives for the stress and I will have my feet propped up enjoying the day.
