Hot Roast Beef Sammy with Gravy

Mrs Bear helping pick up the slack from my cutting back on smoking lately.
She likes it, because she's not a big smoked meat enthusiast.

This has always been my favorite “Cheap” restaurant dinner, and the only thing my Son would order from about 10 years old until 18.

I promise my next post will be from the Smoker!!!

Bear

A nice 3 LB Chucky:

You gotta love that beef and gravy. When I was a kid it was one of my favourites too. When we went downtown shopping my Mom used to take me to a cafeteria restaurant in Vancouver called the White Lunch. When I was a kid, it was the treat of the century. In retrospect, it was pretty bad. However, I still think of hot roast beef sandwiches as comfort food.

Thanks for the good post and the memories, Bear.

That looks awesome!! And I'm glad you're showing us all that the crockpot is not necessarily evil. Hope you're back on your feet and back to smoking soon, but it looks like Mrs. Bear is taking good care of you in the meantime!

Thanks Disco!!!

I think it was more popular back in our day. Every time we used to go to the mountains, my Dad would stop in Bethlehem, at a place called "John's Lunch" (not there any more), and I'd always order "Hot Roast Beef Sandwich, with gravy & French Fries".

I was just a Cub then!!

I've had that type of hot roast beef sandwich in diners all over New England and even when it's mediocre it's pretty darn good ! There used to be a diner named "jean's" in Connecticut that had absolutely the best one on the planet....everything homemade , and it was huge and back then it cost about 2 bucks. If I had a time machine , I'd go straight to 1967 and go get me one!
Ah well , That one you made looks really nice. The second one looks pretty terrific too.

Nice Bear, real nice. Here we have poboys.... and you can get your roast beast Poboy fully dressed  OR if you are in the know you ask for it dressed and "Sloppy" That means they pour the gravy over it. Yes, there is no polite way to eat it, sort of like a watermelon. You can wash up after you are finished I figured.

Ya know, all the best foods require washing up after ya eat 'em. LOL Or maybe I am just a pig at the table.

There is nothing better. You know good sandwiches are getting hard to find. Either that or I am getting more particular.

Looks really good Bear. Good enough that I want one now.

Thanks for sharing

Thanks Mdbb!!

Mrs Bear's a good kid, but if it was up to her many of the things I smoke would be done in the Crockpot.

Yup, most times it was just Dad & Me. About Noon on Fridays, the principal would come to my 4th, 5th, and 6th grade class rooms, and tell me & my teacher that I had to leave with my Dad, who was waiting for me in his truck. They didn't know why, but it was so we could get some fishing in before dark, and then get to the cabin to be ready for the next day's fishing. The rest of the family went up about twice a year, but My Dad & I were up about twice a month, fishing our Butts off !!!

Ahhh---Memories!!

Thanks Foamy!!

The second one I showed is great to dip in au jus, but the first one has to be eaten with a fork, or it will fall apart.

I love 'em all.

I can say this, until she met me she was a vegetarian. One smoked burger was all it took to change that! She still wont eat pork, however I have caught her sneaking bacon!
