Hey all,
I`m not really sure if i`m in the right area to post being a new member or not, the mods can put it in the right place if not. I`ve been a lurker here for a very long time. I`ve been a smoker (of meats) for over 50yrs. I recently retired my very old 1/4 inch thick steel stick burner. I can`t cut and split wood anymore, so my stick burner days are now over due to my aging and health. Parking my old faithful smoker is like losing a very close friend.

I recently bought a Recteq (BYB1200) pellet smoker, because i refuse to give up smoking. If i couldn`t smoke anymore, they may as well spread my ashes. I`m here to ask a few questions now an then about the pellet smoker thing. Pellet smokers are a new thing for me, so i may pop in here an there to ask a few questions.

Have a smokey day, friends!

Welcome from Iowa! Glad you joined us! Ask away any questions you have... it's a great bunch of helpful people here. I did move your thread to Roll Call, not that it's a big deal but that's where most people introduce themselves.
Look forward to some of your smokes.

Hi Ryan, thank you very much for putting it where its suppose to be. I wasn`t really sure where to go. Really glad to finally join in here. I`ve followed this forum for a very long time. Seen some really GREAT smokes in here over the years! If i can find out how to get pictures in here of my first smokes, i`ll do my best to get them in here. At my age, computors aren`t my best friend, lol, but i`ll try regardless, lol.

Thanks friend, take care!

You'll like that pellet grill . For starters make sure to follow the startup and shutdown directions .
From there just take time to learn it . They make great food .
Enjoy .

Welcome aboard.
You will not get the strength of smoke profile as a stick burner, don’t even try. That said, pellet machines make delicious food, they create a beautiful smoke ring and a bit lighter smoke profile, but super easy to use and way less work. Enjoy your new smoker.

If you have issues with pics just ask, someone can help you out... probably not me... I can add photos but I'm the type that believes every computer should be sold with a hammer, if it doesn't work right, hit it!
As others have mentioned you won't get the same smoke from a pellet smoker as your stick burner but you can always add a smoke tube inside to help supplement the smoke. I have both a stick burner and a pellet smoker... pellet smoker gets used more just from easier use and I'm always busy to take time to use the stick burner.
Love your avatar! Is that what you have for a dog?

Not my dog, i love the breed though. I loved the avatar because my wife thinks i look at her that way when she ask`s me a question, lol. I lost my Black Lab, "Missie" a couple years ago, she passed away in my arms from cancer. At my age, i don`t want to get another dog again, she was the last one. I fear i will be gone before the next dog if i had one, and nobody would ever love the dog like i would, so i chose not to get another dog. This one broke my heart when she died. I have been having a hard time NOT wanting another one. I just love dogs. A little Pug would be really kool, they are quite a little charmer, lol.

We have big dogs but a friend recently stopped by with her pug... the pug and our Doberman played so well together! She was a sweetheart! Never been around other dogs or on a farm before... she was always with me for that weekend... yes, I'm a softie!
