Yeah, I find them at the base of the old growth maples

Nice and huge, I had never heard of them until Jed bauchjw sent me some, roasted them with some oil, garlic and they where awesome.

Thanks I’ve actually been finding them in the same spot on my property for years. It’s a nice little treat at the end of the summer for me.

Sweet. I need to go to forager class and learn the safe ones.
I think they are growing on the base of apple trees I cut down. Low rainfall year so they are pretty small

Nice find. Last time I got a hen of the woods, I made a big batch of pasta sauce with it, cream, and walnuts (also coming on this time of year). Turned out good. No recipe to share. Just kind of tossed it together.

I've only had them fried, but after reading yours and clifish's preparations I'm going to give both ways a shot

Boletes are on the top of my list to identify and try. I don’t come across many of them around here and I’m really careful when trying a new species

It rained a lot here last night, and what do you know! Found this baby in the back woods today. It was about 3.24 lbs when I weighed it. Not huge as far as these things go, but that's still a lot of mushroom.
