I am from Alabama and have just recently moved to Southern California for work. We have tried several BBQ restaurants here and have not been able to find BBQ like we were used to in the south, so I bought a cheap-o propane vertical smoker to start with (wanted to ensure it was something I could do). I have done chicken (turned out great, in fact my wife declined to go to a local BBQ restaurant the other night on the way home because "your chicken is better than theirs") and a prime rib roast for Thanksgiving (it was good, but not sure I got that one exactly right, used a grocery store bought rub, but meat had good smoke and was juicy and tender). Bought a pork butt today and going to try that this weekend.
I look forward to reading more of the posts and advice on the website to make me more proficient in my smoking.
