Hello my name's Cullen from the coal region of pa, I'm new to smoking and have already read a lot of threads on this forum and love it. My lovely fiance just bought me a mes 30 sportsman elite from cabelas:yahoo:. I plan on seasoning it this weekend and smoking next weekend. Any suggestions for a first smoke? Looking forward to being on this forum.

Glad you joined the group. The search bar at the top of any page is your best friend.
About anything you wanna know about smoking/grilling/curing/brining/cutting or slicing
and the list goes on has probably been posted. Remember to post a QVIEW of your smokes.
We are all smoke junkies here and we have to get our fix. If you have questions
Post it and you will probably get 10 replies with 11 different answers. That is
because their are so many different ways to make great Q...

Chicken is always a good first smoke. It is tasty and forgiving. With your MES 30 you won't have a temp swing problem. It does have the drawback of not getting the skin crispy. But it is still tasty.
Happy smoken.

Welcome Cullen,

as David said, just ask questions and search the site.

You will go from just tinkering with a smoker, to making world class fare in no time, if you

listen to the folks on this site!

Welcome to the forums Cullen!  This is a good place to share ideas on all things smoked, grilled, cured, etc.  Lots of friendly and knowledgeable members who genuinely enjoy helping out.  Just ask when you need anything...someone here will surely have the answer.  As David said, a chicken or chicken parts is a good easy first smoke.  Pork butt, spare ribs, a fattie...these are all fairly easy to figure out as well with a little reading in the correct SMF subforum.

Good luck!  Be sure to show and tell us how that maiden cook turns out.  We always like to see the qview (pics of your food, your cooks, your gear, etc.).
