  1. I finally decided to post after lurking for some time. I am going to try to include some pictures so I hope it was worth the time and effort since I have "dial-up" internet.

I retired as a motorcycle mechanic and I have been smoking meat for several years. I have learned a lot of great information reading the posts in this forum.

This is my mod. electric ECB.

a cabinet I had given to me for a smoker build.

    all stainless inside and out.

     And finally some food porn.....

    A spatchcock chicken

and for good measure a recent butt.

Welcome to the site Stove, Awesome looking cabinet you have there, wish I had one about twice that size.

Looks like it would make one heck of a GES ( giant electric smoker )

Or a very nice stumps clone charcoal feeder.

Too many options to think of all of them right now.

Was it an oven or a frig? I would think it was a frig but what do I know. [IMG]

BTW Points for you already, 4 pics in your first post and your on dial-up. Great Job and thanks for taking the time to share with us.

How far down south are ya? I used to get down to table-rock pretty regular until I got poor, (after my divorce)

Well looks like your off to a good start!! So welcome aboard & keep those views coming
  6. Thanks all for the welcome..........N G  I did read the 5 day course. I read any good info I can find about smoking food.   Tom 37 The cabinet was a freezer. I am hoping the insulation in it is compatible with heat to about 250 F or so. I have been trying to find out but no luck yet.  I live near Neosho which is about 20 m south of Joplin. Way down in the corner.

On the freezer, is there a place where you can open the skin and see if it looks like foam insulation or more like fiberglass? If it looks like the fiberglass then I would think the only thing you may need to do would be change the door gasket.

Duckkiller is east of ya over in Rolla, he works in the restaurant field and may be able to help identify what type of insulation you have. He's been pretty busy lately but he's in and out every so often.

Your close enough, you could take that thing over to the flyin J in joplin and have the trick my truck guys pimp it out for ya.

The bad part is I am sure it would come at a cost.

Hello Stovebolt and welcome to SMF. Glad to see you are off and running with some great looking food.
  11.   Thanks. I already know it has synthetic insulation. It is called ecomade. I just don't know what temperatures it can stand. I know they use the same stuff in their warm boxes that run to about 180. I heated it to 184 with my hotplate in the cabinet with a therm and it seemed fine but hot plate maxed out on temp and wouldn't go higher. Will have to rig something unless I can find some one who knows about this stuff. The box was made by True Manufacturing in O'fallon MO.

Anybody out there with some info or know who I could ask? Any hepl would be great.
