Hey guys and gals, thanks for this great forum. I have found a ton of information that has been extremely helpful to me in the last few weeks. I started out wanting to make a nice pulled pork after a buddy of mine tempted and teased me with one after a duck hunt. ( I only had to wait 4 more hours but I ran out of time)

So, I watched what he did and thought, Gee, I can do that. So off to the store I went, Then to the internet for recipes and tips. Found you guys and some other sites and next thing I knew I was smoking on the gas grill. Turned out AWESOME. so much that gee, I want to do this again. So up at my cottage I did it again, grill again. Very good, but...hummm, this could be better.

Some friends had a weber vertical charcoal smoker they offered up. hmmmm, well why not. Brand new in the box, I put it together for them, fired it up and wow....I loved it. WAY better than on the grill, but man, what a PITA. This unit really can not control heat other than to lift the lid. No grates. How dumb is that????

Well, still smitten, I wanted to ribs...Memphis and classical style. My buddy shows up with his vertical smoker (essentially the same one I had) and we have Rib fest. 8 racks of ribs...Pros and cons to all things, but getting closer....

Now the big question, which type of smoker? boy, have you heard that question before? LOL. So I have been doing some reading and then today I saw SMV24S 24" Smoke Vault  thread... I pulled the trigger. Not sure if that is what I really want, but for now, the price is right and I suspect I will be getting a AMNTS from Todd soon to augment my arsenal.

So, thanks again for the site, I will post up some pics once I get it all dialed in.

Eric.

Eric-Welcome to SMF. The Smoke Vault is a good little smoker to start with. One of my smokers is a Great Outdoors Smokey Mountain propane smoker and the SV is similar in operation.

After a couple of smokes you'll be wishing you had a larger smoker.

Enjoy!

Thanks Dutch,

for starters, this will be easier to justify/hide!!!

Real plan is to do a nice 4 x 4 x 8 smoke house, but for now I probably need to justify my using this for a bit before the other half agrees to something that "noticable" in the yard.

I just hope it works like I want it too. I don't mind modding things up, but if you get to the point where you are completely redesigning the thing you almost wish you saved the money.

Welcome to the forum, from another guy in Wisconsin getting ready for winter.

Welcome.  I have learned a lot here and I'm sure you will too.  Looking forward to seeing some pre-game smokes.  Nothing better than eating great homemade BBQ, drinking a cold one, and watching the Packers win.
