Hello from central Pennsylvania

Hello all, Frank here from Central PA.  Yes, I get the hot dog joke.  Ha ha. 

I've started doing a lot more with smoked sausage/brats lately.  My problem is I always end up getting a lot of juice leaking out and leading to flareups.  Is using tongs not the right way to handle them?  Thanks in advance, looking forward to learning from all you experts.
