Hi Everybody, I'm Rich from Kettering Ohio. I've been smoking for about four years now. I started out with a stand up small smoker which got me addicted to smoking. Then I bought a Char-Broil Smoker with the side firebox which is now on its last legs. Last week I went out and bought an Oklahoma Joe's Longhorn Smoker. For the price point it seems very well made and should last longer than the one I have now. I actually found this forum doing some research before I went out and bought it. When I started reading the postings here, I couldn't believe how many mods there were and how many of these things would have really helped the last smoker I had.

I found out how much I really needed an education!! The new unit will have several mods done before its even put together. I'm very excited to try the Okie out and see how it works. I'm also very excited to be a part of this forum and share ideas with all of you and learn more about our shared passion.

My wife and I grew up in the St. Pete/Clearwater area of Florida, so we grew up on a steady diet of BBQ. Good southern BBQ was always hard to come by in Ohio until recently. In the last few years a few decent places have popped up which offer good BBQ. None are better than you can make yourself if you take the time. Thanks so much to all of you in advance!!!

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us!

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per TulsaJeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!
