Has anyone tried cornish hens in the smoker?

I'm likely buying a WSM soon (I have an EBC but it needs to be babysat constantly which kinda killed me smoking food for a year). I've done plenty of quarters but was debating doing cornish hens. Has anyone tried it? Is it even worth the effort compared to regular chicken?

We do them. The kids like having a whole bird to themselves.

I have done them.

They are kinda neat little things to cook, but expensive compared to chicken.

I only do them once a year.

Yep, brined/cured and then smoked them.  Wonderful flavor, but like c farmer said, the little critters are high!

Kids love them!

Like the others,I have but prefer a meaty chicken.

these have been one of my best tasting foods so far. extremely juicy.

- completely thawed and no brine

- make my own rub, cayenne based, stuff with red onions and whole garlic cloves to taste

- while hen is sitting, i make an injectable juice - apple cidar vin, worcestershire sauce and butter

- get smoker ready and have a beer

- put the hens in

- about every 30 minutes, ill shoot the hens with my sauce mixture

they come out amazing. i usually do 2 hens per male at my parties and one for the females. ill still make at least two more, over head count.

Pretty much echo what others have said:  tasty treats, but a little pricey comparatively.

Wow.  Then I'd be happy to take any and all shrimp and crawfish off your hands as well since they're a "lot of work for a little meat," too.

Hey Groucho, I can sit at a table covered in newspaper & crawfish all day long & work all day on those for a little meat. Or me & my buddies get a bushel of oysters & sit in the back yard shucking oysters & drinking beer. Same goes for clams, crabs, shrimp or mussels. But those delicacies are a little different than a miniature chicken!
