I have always loved hot and spicy, been having indigestion for awhile and narrowed it down to tropical 7UP, I had slacked off of spicy and have decided the citrus acid was causing my discomfort. Hate that too cause a good cold 1 every few days was really good. Oh well part of aging I suppose.

I've had a low tolerance for it my whole life and I never understood those who love it extra hot. To me it's like hitting yourself in the head with a hammer, why do it if you know it's going to hurt?
I think there is a difference between hot flavor and pain.

I like the sensation and still being able to taste the flavor of the peppers.

If someone is into the pain aspect, we'll that is another topic....

Went into a Thai restaurant in Syracuse last fall.

Ordered my food and asked for it spicy, according to the options on the menu.

The waitress asked "Do you want it Thai spicy, or white spicy?"

I laughed and asked for Thai spicy.

When they brought out my food, I noticed the waitress and the cooks watching me take the first bite.

So funny!

It was spicy and hot, just as I'd expected.

I guess to sum it up, my heat level is the highest I can tolerate while still tasting the pepper without feeling any discomfort.

I am at the point now where Habenaro meets that mark, where previously it had been Ghost.

Don't know why there was a change in my case.

For me it's a matter of how often I have spice. In times if making super hot sauces my tolerance becomes high as I eat it often daily. I haven't so much this winter and notice that things that is usually consider whimpy have more of a bite.
So I think that what it is for me. I give left overs to couple friends that dont like real spicy so I been tailoring for them. Its against my old rule that I make it like I want it and you dont have to eat it but in my old age I have become flexible.
