Looks great Robert . I've been wanting to make that dish , never had it .

Well sir, I was thrilled to finally hit the mark with this one. Can't recommend it enough. They were far easier to make than anticipated and simply fantastic.

Excellent write-up!
Food looks delicious!
We make homemade pierogis every Christmas Eve!
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much Justin. I don't know that this will become a tradition but I can promise you that I'll start making them (tomorrow) and having them in the freezer for immediate use.

Robert, this is one phenomenal thread… very well done! SMF is an awesome place with great folks like xray xray xray xray and his Grandma being willing to share a recipe like this!

Thank you very much my friend. I 100% agree that the contributions from Joe and his grandma are amazing....and so was the food :emoji_wink:

Nice work Robert!

My grandma use to make is along with boiled cabbage and I quite enjoy it now as well!

Thank you sir. Sounds pretty similar just different approaches in using the cabbage. From my standpoint, I don't care how the cabbage is done, I just love it however it's prepared.

You inspired me last night! I couldn’t put the time and effort you did, but randomly decided to do a “cabbage roll stew” that came out delicious. My wife wants it in the rotation now! thank you, once again, for inspiring some fun!

LOL Robert and Joe inspired me as well. I’ve been working on a huge batch all day. I’ll get mine posted up later in the week.

Ok, I watched a couple vids on doing this. Seems there are a couple ways of folding them up, but I'm liking the ...lets call it the "burrito"method.
I've seen several recipes here for the cabbage rols et al. Just about everyone of them has some mention that they freeze well.
Question : Do you freeze them before or after cooking ?

Robert Very nice looking meal sorry for the late reply. We love halupki I made them with Brussel Sprout leaves a few times.

Holy cow Jed!! That looks fantastic. What an incredible adaptation. I just hope Joe ( xray xray ) sees this. He and his wife do a lot of different soups and I bet he'd be all over this one. Very well done sir!!

Thank you Chris I appreciate it sir.

Freeze before cooking. Matter of fact I made a batch yesterday. Placed them on a baking sheet, covered, and into the freezer. I do that so they don't get smashed to pancakes when vac sealed. The first batch I got from Joe were frozen and uncooked.

Oh man!! That is one of my all time favorite meals, Robert.

Thank you Gary. It's now one of my favorites :emoji_wink:

Always great to see you drop in Richie. I had not considered Brussels sprouts but I love them so could see that working really well.

Piggy Soup!!! It's good stuff for sure. I've made it a few times, it's great when you want the flavors without the work of rolling cabbage.

🤣It was delicious! Probably similar recipes, but I added two tablespoons of Gochujang paste to give it a little heat. I figured most of the ingredients were common to Korean cooking. Worked great!

Thanks for the reply. Freezing them will make things much easier. I don't really see much way to just make a few, so big batches frozen, then thaw enough for me works much better. She-Beast won't touch these on a bet or dare.

Kinda like My "Deerlupki", but with Beef. It's all the stuff that's in a Halupki, but it's not rolled.
We love it!! Only difference is Deer & Pork, instead of Beef & Pork.
Deerlupkis (Unstuffed Cabbage). Step by step, with ingredients:

Wow Robert just wow. Here again is the great part of this forum members sharing with members and old family recipes at that.

Freezing them will make things much easier.

As noted, freeze them before vac sealing so they don't crush under the pressure. The converse of that is true also. When you take them out of the freezer to defrost, cut the bag open immediately. It is still under pressure and will smash the pierogies as they thaw.

Damn Bear, that looks really good. I saw the thread but it really didn't hit home then. Boy howdy it sure does now!!
