gonna do a brisket and shoulder for a party this weekend. is guessing 2 hours per lb just about right? i know cook to temp not time but i need an idea so i can get it finished up on time.

Here are some starting points I use to at least get a ball park start time.

Hope this is helpful

Meat                                  Cooking Temps                Meat Temps

Brisket/ (Sliced)                        225°F 1.5 hours/pound             180 degrees

Brisket/ (Pulled)                        225°F 1.5 hours/pound             195 degrees

Pork Butt/ (Sliced)                    225°F 1.5 hours/pound             175 degrees

Pork Butt/ (Pulled)                    250°F 1.5 hours/pound             190-205 degrees

The cooking time for a big hunk of meat depends on the weight of the meat and the temperature at which you are cooking. 2 hours a pound at 225°F sounds about right. I like to sleep at night so I get up early and get the meat on by 6am or so and cook at temps between 275°-300° which gets my 7-8 pound butts done in about 8-9 hours, give or take.
