WOW!! I'm hooked. Where can I find your recipe and technique to make this? If it's a family secret I can certainly respect that but if you can share, I'd appreciate it. I grew up eating (and loving) dried beef. Made gravy regularly with it and mom used to do something for dinner....can't remember what it was she did but I'm gonna have to figure it out. I can see slicing this stuff paper thin and using it for all kinds of great recipes.
Maybe in the Navy they called this Sht on a Shingle, but in the Army Sht on a Shingle was made with Ground Beef, and it was terrible!!
They had too many mouths to feed to use expensive Dried Beef for the Grunts, so we got ours mixed with Hamburger!!!
Navy & Air Force always ate a lot better.
When using Dried Beef, the proper name is "Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast", and I love it.
Throughout my Army career, SOS was a breakfast staple, never saw it served at any other meal.
I would have a scoop over my fried potatoes and omellette. Tasted great.
