Fishing the St. Lawrence seaway.

I've gone fishing up in the 1000 Islands before. And this coming June I'm renting a boat for 2 days. That'll sting the wallet! And fish around the islands and rock structures instead of from the banks or docks. I've got plenty of gear. But wanted to reach out for anyone that has fished from a boat there to see if they have any advice. I'm bringing 6 poles to cover everything from rock bass to pike. And I'd really wish to hook into a Musky. That has only happened to me once. And lost it. Any tips?

Wow! That’s going to be awesome! My experience with fishing is beer and life jackets are essential! I always put my life jacket on before I drink beer, I’ve only done charter so didn’t have to worry about navigating, other boats, the shore, etc!

Sorry I’m not much help with the actual fishing part, but I am seriously happy for you and hope you have a great time!

SH, No help here but have fun ! as a kid I remember huge cat fish around Boldt castle in the 1000 island area.

Steve, I've never fished there, but I have a friend at work who has fished the St. Lawrence. I'll ask him about it on Friday when I go back to work.

Only did Sotus bay near you for king salmon, needed a down rigger for that. Afraid I am no help otherwise, although jealous of that trip.

Sounds like a great time Steve , I have not fished where you are talking , but also wanted to go to northern fishing for Pike and Musky.

But fishing from the bost is a lot better than from shore , and I do both . But off shore so much better.

Don’t take any Wooden Nickels. Other then that have a great time. Sounds fun.

Well I talked to my friend. Actually three friends and none had any real advice. Two recommended a charter service and the third wasn't about to give up his secrets. They did say cozy up to some of the locals, and see what going on and where they're hitting. Sorry I couldn't be any more help.

yeah, that's what I'm gonna do. Usually folks will give advice. I do the same around my parts. I bought more fishing stuff. Which I needed like a hole in my head!

This breaks down to 4 pieces. So it's nice and compact. And it is a 6'6" medium action rod. I'm either putting my Mitchell 300X on it. Or buy another reel.

I hear ya!! After all my years of fishing and accumulating "stuff", I have more than I will ever use. But I just acquired 4 more rods and reels and I don't really know why.

As for your trip, you'll have fun I'm sure. Best advice is to hit up the local bait stores...

lol! It is an addiction! That'll be my first stop after getting the pontoon boat rented. Going to spend the day sightseeing and fishing.

Good luck, have read Muskie the fish of a 1000 casts lol . I like the looks of that Ugly Stick , let me know how well it works, would like to have 1 for traveling when I really don't want to load the others that don't break down.

what part you heading to steve, i used to fish there couple time a year mostly around eels bay by welsley island, used to like to go for perch, we fished in 30-50 feet of water for them. also pike fishing wasn't to bad there, mostly just floated around bay using spoons for them, good bass fishing also. had good luck for perch also off alexandria bay again though it was usually in deeper water where we found the nice big ones, i just used a jig tipped with a small minnow for them,

Thanks! I'll report back about the rod. If it holds up to the Ugly stick rep. Then it should be a great rod. They really beefed up the places where they connect.

I'll be staying in Clayton at the Harbor Hotel. Which is on waterfront of the seaway. And I'm renting a boat at Clayton. There are plenty of areas to fish around. Alex bay is about 12 miles from the hotel. Welsley island is one of the places I'll check out. I went there during a antique boat ride.
