I have one of those 275 gallon fuel oil drum that I am building for my first build. My intentions are to use a 55 gal drum as my offset firebox but I am having trouble trying to figure out the best way to go about it. I tried cutting it down and using 1/3 of it but couldn’t seem to get enough wood in to get it up to temp. Didn’t know if I should just maybe use the whole barrel or set it somewhere other than the side. I was wondering if anyone had some ideas for the best way to go about setting it up. Thanks everyone

Personally, I'd put the firebox underneath (to help with the temp,) but that would probably make the whole thing a bit on the tall side.
