At Costco last week picking up some stuff I noticed 1 packaged prime brisket point. I've never seen just the point for sale there but it is my favorite part. Being only $20 I figured WTH and grabbed it. Tried this one a bit different. Smoked for 5 hours and didnt touch it. Brought it in and wrapped in foil when it hit 165 and then stuck it in my oven to finish it. Just set the oven for 250 and let it go. It got tender at about 209 and I pulled it then and just let it sit on the counter for an hour or so in the foil. Turned out better than any of the other 6 full packers I've done. Figured no point in wasting pellets for the last few hours. It's not taking on any more smoke while wrapped in foil and the oven is more consistent with temps than my pellet grill. We really like how it turned out but part of that could have been the new rub we tried. Here's how she looked.

Easier than packer because you're only dealing with one type of the packer so you get a consistent cook without having to depend on both parts being tender.

It was better because, well, the point is the tastier part of the packer. All that intramuscular fat and so forth.

I love point. Yum.

Looks great, don't bet on your oven temps being more stable, they will run over and under temps also, I have never found just a point, flat yes always wondered where they went lol

Well even if the oven temps swing I doubt it swing as much as my campchef. I love my camp chef but sometimes the temp swing up to 100degrees either way. And like I said after its wrapped your just cooking it. Your no longer smoking it so no need to use up pellets. In the summer I'll leave em back out in the smoker just because of heating up the house with the oven but with the cooler late winter temps I dont mind the oven being on low temp for a couple hours.

I wish we could buy just the point around here!
It's either full packer or flat!
That point of yours looks real good!

Does anyone actually know where the points go. I find flats all the time also but almost never points. Aldis on occasion has a pre seasoned brand called norton's and they are points.

I wonder if the market perception is that the point is the less desirable cut and therefore the point gets sent off for other products like premium burger patties, etc

Excellent! I too wish I could buy points but I haven't found them locally. Only whole packers or flats.
That looks great.

I have the good fortune of having several butcher shops that will sell me just the point. Love the shops, but to be able to find it in a grocery store would be a dream, as the butchers don't always have them.

And what was this new rub you mention?

Nothing wrong with the oven finish. That point looks delicious. Good job, and nice find.

Winco Foods usually has just the points for sale.
