I finally found Kingsford Competition charcoal.  Not sure why it and Royal Oak are so difficult to find in Northern Virginia.  Shoppers Food Warehouse had a variety of Kingsford coals ranging in price from $8.97 to $9.74.

Believe it or not the Safeway two blocks from me here in NW DC has Kingsford Competition. I see there are a few Safeways around Herndon and Leesburg. Give them a call if one of them is convenient to you.

Thanks for this information.  Have you cooked with or noticed any differences between the kingsford blue bag or the competition?
