I have a Masterbrink digital smoker and have been smoking for only about a year. I have done tenderloin, chicken, turkey, and pork tenderloin. Follow Jeff's recipes and, so far, have had great success. Now I have been asked to prepare something for a church banquet next weekend for about 50 people. I need some suggestions on a good meat for a novice, cost effective, and GREAT taste. I thought pork tenderloin because I have done more of that than anything else. Any ideas?
 
Pork tenderloin, or pork loin are both good choices.

But everybody's favorite is a butt for PP sammies!

I agree with Al. Butts are something that is hard to mess up. The prices are low right now and you can get about 18-20 servings from a 10 pounder. 
 
Another good option for a crowd is to smoke boneless skinless chicken thighs and pull or chop for sandwiches. You get almost zero loss. Also you can smoke them several days in advance and then reheat the day of.
 
Depending on the size of the smoker you can do bone in chicken pieces. I have done that for a fundraiser before.

Or as others have said Pulled pork is another on that is good and cost effective. Also Brisket works.
 
Fowler, I am curious what you came up with? I will be going to a family reunion in a few months and I am thinking about doing a couple of briskets.
 
I'm from NWFL and brisket isn't a big deal hear. I learned to cook it about 30 years ago while living in Texas. Whenever I go to family reunions, I always do at least one. They are a huge hit and there's never leftovers.

  I agree as well, Do pork butts for the PP. Cheaper and more to it. The pulled chicken thighs is great as well. A brisket would be good but probably not cost effective there. Let us know how you go...
