I bought one a few weeks ago. I haven't cracked it yet, either.
I‘ll probably crack the seal on this one either tonight or tomorrow night.

Although I'm more a fan of southern distiller's one of my wife's clients sent this to me last week. Tasty for sureView attachment 660037
Im with you. I'm not sure it's for me lolBoth my sons are big rye fans…but I haven’t been able to develop much of a taste for it. Maybe I just haven’t tried the right rye yet…

The Templeton Rye they have in stores now I can't stand... but from time to time I can get some of the original recipe... that stuff is smooth! If I get more I'll save a bottle for you... can't be much farther than 4 hours away from me.Jameson, Wild Turkey 101, and Bulleit 95 Rye are my go to whiskeys.
I'm not particular. All I require is a clean glass to pour them in.
On the other hand I can't stand Maker's Mark. The smell of yeast coming off of that stuff is way too much. It's like drinking freshly proofed bread dough.
Living in Iowa I suppose I should try Templeton Rye some day but all the fake hype about it being an Iowa rye is just too much for me. It's distilled in Indiana and is shipped in stainless steel tanker trucks to many places/companies for aging, bottling, and labeling. I don't doubt it's good but so is Bulleit.
My son bought me a 2+ liter one years ago. I put nothing but Old Crow in it for years (not a bad bourbon right out of the plastic handle) and in a week it's fantastic. I take a sip from it a couple times per week and top it off afterwards and that seems to work just fine.Anyone else buy a small charred oak barrel to age cheap whiskey in to make it better or am I the only cheap ass here?![]()
If you look a little you can find such staves (and in the more common charred oak) sold individually with the idea one slides right into a normal bottle through the neck. Based on my positive experience (see above) with charred barrels, I've been meaning to give them a try....Toasted apple wood staves added...
Try Rittenhouse Bottled in Bond. Both my sons are big rye fans…but I haven’t been able to develop much of a taste for it. Maybe I just haven’t tried the right rye yet…

12, for me. I still have a few bottles of the last Elijah Craig 12-year put out before they stopped making it.Jack Daniel's is about to release a 10-year and a 12-year whiskey. 300 barrels of each. I doubt it will be readily available, or that I'll buy one. Personally, older bourbons taste bitter, astringent, and acrid to me, but taste is subjective. 6-8 years is the bourbon sweet spot for me.
