I was just in wallyworld picking up the last 8 bags of RO lump they had and noticed the ECB charcoal smokers were on sale for 28.88. For this price how can you go wrong? I'm thinking I should pick one up to add to the arsenal. Is this a pretty good smoker?

TIA

That is a really good deal, they must be clearing out their "seasonal" stuff. Lots of mods are listed on the site, if you're up to tinkering with it to get it to smoke a little more efficiently.

I've got an ecb and love it. Have yet to make mods but still love it anyways.

gun - the short answer to this is yes!

jeff's free 5-day course outlines great ways to use this very versatile cooker:

be sure to implement a few mods - you can find them at www.randyq.com or ask around here.

i've turned out great chicken:

Being my old ECB is over 30 + years old now, I would have to say yes. I have down several mods to it and it is my only "go to" charcoal smoker.

Thanks for the replies and info. I'm going to pick up at least one maybe 2. Should be good to sear my next brisket on as well as for extra smoking/grilling use.

I picked one up recently for that price.

You might also want to pick up the $5 round grill as well, for these mods.

You can cut the handle off the grate of the $5 grill and it fits in the charcoal pan like this:

I also drilled some holes in the pan for airflow.

The base of the $5 grill then can become a stand for the firepan (if you mount the legs on the outside of the ECB.

Here it is, smoking away (mounted the grill thermometer WalMart sells, as the ECB one is pretty much useless)...
